Abstract
Cognitive achievement is an important aspect of education. In a
mathematics class, the researcher found that the students had problems with their
cognitive achievement in learning Sequences and Series. Thus, the researcher
decided to use the STAD teaching method to see if it could improve students’
cognitive achievement.
The research which was conducted from August – November 2015 with 22
students, was conducted to know whether STAD could improve the students’
cognitive achievement and if so, to know how STAD could accomplish this.
The research used the spiral model of Classroom Action Research by
Kemmis & McTaggart as the research method. Two cycles of action research were
carried out to collect data. Five instruments were used: quizzes, students’
questionnaire, students’ evaluation, mentor’s feedback, and the researcher’s
reflective journal. Descriptive statistics and qualitative descriptive analysis were
used to analyze the data.
The research results show that all of the steps in STAD (delivering the
learning objectives and motivating students; delivering the material; organizing and
facilitating students to work in groups; giving evaluation; and giving rewards)
contributed to helping students improve their cognitive achievement in both cycles.
But it was the group work that contributed the most significantly./ Pencapaian kognitif adalah hal yang penting dalam pendidikan. Di dalam
kelas matematika, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa memiliki masalah pencapaian
kognitif dalam belajar Barisan dan Deret. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memutuskan
untuk menggunakan metode mengajar STAD untuk melihat apakah itu dapat
membantu.
Penelitian yang dilaksanakan dari Agustus – November 2015 dengan 22
siswa, dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui apakah STAD dapat meningkatkan
pencapaian kognitif siswa dan jika dapat, untuk mengetahui bagaimana STAD
dapat meningkatkannya.
Penelitian ini menggunakan spiral model Penilitian Tindakan Kelas oleh
Kemmis & McTaggart sebagai metode penelitian. Dua siklus dilaksanakan untuk
mengumpulkan data. Lima instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuis, kuisioner siswa,
evaluasi siswa, umpan balik mentor, dan jurnal refleksi peneliti. Teknik analisis
statiska deskriptif dan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua step dalam STAD
(menyampaikan tujuan pembelajaran dan memotivasi siswa; menyampaikan
materi; mengorganisasi dan memfasilitasi siswa untuk bekerja di dalam kelompok,
memberikan evaluasi; dan memberikan penghargaan) berkontribusi dalam
membantu siswa meningkatkan pencapaian kognitif mereka di kedua siklus. Tetapi,
bekerja d dalam kelompok yang memberikan kontribusi paling signifikan.
