Abstract

Every year, there has been an increase in the number of emerging adults who are single and unmarried in Indonesia. One of several factors that affect one’s decision to marry is fear of intimacy. Moreover, past experiences from infant to adolescence can be another factor on how an individual emerging adult woman is able to form an intimacy with her partner. For women, father is the first male figure in their life. Hence, this may affect how they form their perception towards male figures based on their father’s involvement in their childhood to adolescence. Unfortunately, Indonesia has been labelled as a “fatherless” country due to the lack of father involvement in childcare. The purpose of this research is to see the relationship between father’s involvement and fear of intimacy in romantic relationship of emerging adult women in Indonesia. This research is quantitative research with cross-sectional and retrospective-prospective study design. This research uses correlational research methods to 157 emerging adult women in Indonesia. The result of this research shows that there was a negative and significant relationship between father’s involvement and fear of intimacy in romantic relationship of emerging adult women in Indonesia./Setiap tahunnya, jumlah masyarakat dewasa awal di Indonesia yang masih melajang atau belum menikah terus meningkat. Keputusan untuk menikah dilandasi oleh beberapa faktor, salah satunya adalah fear of intimacy. Pengalaman masa lalu sejak bayi hingga remaja dapat menjadi faktor penting bagaimana seorang individu perempuan dewasa awal dapat membentuk sebuah intimasi dengan pasangannya. Bagi anak perempuan, sosok ayah merupakan figur laki-laki pertama dalam kehidupannya sehingga dapat membuat anak membentuk persepsi terhadap sosok laki-laki berdasarkan keterlibatan ayah dalam pengasuhan sejak kecil hingga remaja. Sayangnya, Indonesia dicap sebagai negara “fatherless” karena kurangnya keterlibatan ayah pada pengasuhan anak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat hubungan keterlibatan ayah dan fear of intimacy dalam relasi romantis pada perempuan dewasa awal di Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif menggunakan pendekatan cross-sectional dengan retrospective�prospective study design. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian korelasional kepada 157 perempuan dewasa awal di Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan terdapat hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara keterlibatan ayah dengan fear of intimacy dalam relasi romantis pada perempuan dewasa awal di Indonesia (r = -.199, p < .05).
