Abstract

Divorce and separation within a family can have significant effects on emerging adult children, including feelings of shame, anxiety, and difficulty trusting others, which can lead to loneliness. With various negative outcomes resulting from parental divorce, the attachment to pets is predicted to play a crucial role in connecting with loneliness. This study aims to examine the relationship between pet attachment and loneliness in emerging adults with divorced parents in DKI Jakarta using the Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale (LAPS) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3. The study was conducted using correlational quantitative research methods with a cross-sectional design of 213 participants. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between pet attachment and loneliness in emerging adults with divorced parents (r = .140, p = .020).
