Abstract

Film is not only an entertainment, but also can be a way to project a reality in the community and affect the viewers' perspective. But most film contains negative realities, one of which is the reality of women’s body. Women's bodies also provide a standardization of beautiful women's bodies. But amidst the number of films that portray negative ones, a film called I Feel Pretty appears to be trying to change the negative views about how to see beauty from women’s body. This study uses a qualitative research method with John Fiske's semiotics. Research data collection is done by watching and observing the film I Feel Pretty and also from a library studies. The results showed that the film I Feel Pretty tried to change the viewers' perspective of the negative standardization of women's bodies in society. In addition it was also found that standardization was formed from the results of human interaction with each other and the film also tried to convey the message that beautiful women are the one who are confident, even though that perhaps they have fat bodies and not ideal like what people said and want them to be, but if she believes that she is beautiful then her inner beauty will shine from the inside./ Film ada bukan hanya menjadi sebuah hiburan semata, namun juga dapat memproyeksikan realitas yang ada di masyarakat dan mempengaruhi pandangan penontonnya. Namun kebanyakan film yang dirilis mengangkat realitas yang negatif, salah satunya adalah realitas tentang tubuh perempuan. Tidak jarang tubuh perempuan dipandang hanya sebagai objek. Tubuh perempuan juga diberikan standarisasi tentang tubuh perempuan yang cantik.Namun ditengah banyaknya film yang menggamarbarkan realitas yang negatif, muncul film berjudul I Feel Pretty yang berusaha untuk mengubah pandangan negatif tentang bagaimana cara memandang kecantikan dari tubuh perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian semiotika John Fiske. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan menonton dan mencermati film I Feel Pretty dan juga dari studi kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film I Feel Pretty berusaha untuk mengubah pandangan pentonton tentang standarisasi tubuh perempuan yang negatif yang ada di masyarakat. Selain itu ditemukan juga bahwa standarisasi terbentuk dari hasil interaksi manusia dengan sesamanya dan film I Feel Pretty ini juga ingin menyampaikan pesan bahwa perempuan yang cantik adalah perempuan yang percaya diri, sekalipun dirinya memiliki tubuh yang gemuk dan yang tidak ideal dimana orang-orang, namun jika ia percaya bahwa dirinya cantik maka kecantikan dari dalam dirinya, atau kecantikan hatinya akan terpancar.
