Abstract
People with hearing impairments often have difficulty communicating with others. Messages that have been delivered are sometimes responded differently or are not understood by others and cause the communication process do not run effectively. As a teacher, communication noise that arises does not become a barrier to communicating with students with hearing impairments.
The research was conducted at SMPLB Pangudi Luhur Jakarta by applying a qualitative research approach through the case study method. Primary data were obtained through observation and in-depth interviews with two teachers and two students with hearing impairments who were involved in communication activities during the learning process, while secondary data were obtained from literature studies and documentation.
The results showed that during the learning process, communication between teachers and students proceeded simultaneously, messages were delivered in verbal form. Non-verbal symbols are also used as a channel to clarify the meaning of verbal messages. V arious communication noises inhibit the understanding of messages, require both teachers and students to repeat the message clearly and slowly. Aside from patience and great concern for students, the teacher’s field of experience gained by interaction with students also plays an important role in the accuracy of understanding messages, so that the communication process can run even better.

Individu dengan gangguan pendengaran atau penyandang disabilitas tunarungu sering mengalami kesulitan berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Pesan yang disampaikan terkadang ditanggapi secara berbeda atau bahkan tidak dapat dipahami oleh orang lain, menyebabkan proses komunikasi tidak berjalan secara efektif. Sebagai seorang guru, gangguan komunikasi yang timbul terkadang menjadi hambatan untuk berkomunikasi dengan siswa penyandang disabilitas tunarungu.
Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPLB Pangudi Luhur Jakarta dengan menerapkan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif melalui metode studi kasus. Data primer diperoleh melalui observasi dan wawancara mendalam dengan dua guru dan dua siswa kelas 7 dan 8, penyandang disabilitas tunarungu yang terlibat dalam kegiatan komunikasi selama proses pembelajaran di kelas, sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari studi literatur dan dokumentasi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa selama proses pembelajaran, komunikasi antara guru dan siswa berlangsung secara bersamaan, pesan disampaikan dalam bentuk verbal dan non-verbal. Simbol non-verbal digunakan sebagai saluran untuk mengklarifikasi makna pesan verbal. Berbagai gangguan komunikasi yang menghambat pemahaman pesan, mengharuskan guru dan siswa untuk mengulangi pesan dengan jelas dan perlahan. Selain dari kesabaran dan kepedulian yang besar terhadap siswa, pengalaman seorang guru yang diperoleh melalui interaksi dengan siswa juga memainkan peran penting dalam akurasi pemahaman pesan, sehingga proses komunikasi dapat berjalan lebih baik.
