Abstract

Pesatnya perkembangan media massa di Indonesia mencatat 47.000 media aktif yang terdaftar di Dewan Pers di tahun 2020. Masifnya perkembangan media ini terfokus pada terpaan media kasus pembunuhan Brigadir Yosua oleh mantan perwira tinggi kepolisian, Ferdy Sambo, yang kemudian menjadi pusat perhatian publik di tahun 2022. Penelitian terdahulu yang membahas terkait terpaan media kasus Ferdy Sambo ini tidak secara khusus meneliti mengenai kepercayaan generasi Z kepada Polri. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat mengisi kesenjangan tersebut dengan menjawab pertanyaan penelitian “Apakah terpaan media pada kasus Ferdy Sambo mempengaruhi tingkat kepercayaan generasi Z terhadap Polri?” Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan survei untuk menguji Teori Kultivasi. Survei melibatkan 130 responden generasi Z yang tersebar di Indonesia dengan menggunakan teknik convenience sampling. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan antara terpaan media kasus Ferdy Sambo dengan kepercayaan generasi Z terhadap Polri (R= .523). Penelitian selanjutnya diharapkan dapat menginvestigasi peran berbagai saluran media (media tradisional, media sosial, platform berita online) dalam membentuk opini publik, terutama dengan fokus pada pengaruhnya dalam kasus-kasus berprofil tinggi. Hal ini dapat membantu memahami efektivitas dan jangkauan dari berbagai jenis media. / The rapid development of mass media in Indonesia recorded 47,000 active media registered with the Press Council in 2020. The massive development of this media focused on the media exposure of the murder case of Brigadier Yosua by a former high-ranking police officer, Ferdy Sambo, which then became the center of public attention in 2022. Previous research that discussed media exposure in the Ferdy Sambo case did not specifically examine Generation Z's trust in the National Police. It is hoped that this research can fill this gap by answering the research question "Does media exposure to the Ferdy Sambo case affect Generation Z's level of trust in the National Police?" This research uses a survey approach to test the Cultivation Theory. The survey involved 130 Generation Z respondents spread across Indonesia using convenience sampling techniques. This research's findings show a significant influence between media exposure to the Ferdy Sambo case and Generation Z's trust in the National Police (R= .523). Future research is expected to investigate the role of various media channels (traditional media, social media, online news platforms) in shaping public opinion, especially focusing on their influence in high-profile cases. This can help understand the effectiveness and reach of different types of media.
