Abstract

Non-profit organization Kraton Ngiyom is an institution that focuses on the environmental preservation of the activities, arts and culture. In overcoming the environmental problems in the villages of Sekaralas and Sekarputih, Ngawi, East Java, especially regarding the condition of damage to the forest area and both springs in the village area, Kraton Ngiyom uses a communication strategy based on local wisdom by utilizing mythologically-oriented instruments and ceremonies as a medium of communication to encourage the public to care, be motivated, and actively contribute in carrying out environmental preservation activities. This study aims to answer the research question of how the Kraton Ngiyom communication strategy based on local wisdom in environmental conservation efforts in the villages of Sekaralas and Sekarputih. This study uses an ethnographic study approach. Data collection was carried out using direct observation and in-depth interviews with five informants. The results of this study found that the process of delivering messages through myths, which was maximized in the implementation of a ceremony, succeeded in changing the behavior of Sekaralas and Sekarputih villagers to become more concerned about their environmental conditions and to take initiatives in undertaking environmental conservation efforts. LSM Kraton Ngiyom merupakan sebuah lembaga yang berfokus pada kegiatan pelestarian lingkungan, kesenian, dan juga budaya. Dalam mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan didesa Sekaralas dan Sekarputih, Ngawi, Jawa Timur, khususnya kondisi kerusakan kawasan hutan dan kedua sendang yang berada diwilayah desa, Kraton Ngiyom menggunakan strategi komunikasi berbasis kearifan lokal yakni dengan memanfaatkan instrumen mitos dan upacara sebagai media komunikasi untuk mendorong kesadaran masyarakat agar peduli, tergerak, dan aktif berkontribusi dalam melakukan kegiatan-kegiatan pelestarian lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian yaitu bagaimana strategi komunikasi Kraton Ngiyom yang berbasis kearifan lokal dalam upaya pelestarian lingkungan didesa Sekaralas dan Sekarputih. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan studi etnografi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan observasi langsung dan wawancara mendalam kepada lima informan. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa proses penyampaian pesan melalui mitos, yang dimaksimalkan dalam pelaksanaan suatu upacara berhasil mengubah perilaku masyarakat desa Sekaralas dan Sekarputih menjadi lebih peduli akan kondisi lingkungan serta memiliki inisiatif dalam melakukan upaya-upaya pelestarian lingkungan.
