In light of Indonesia’s worsening air pollution, Indonesia has an obligation as one of the world’s biggest carbon emitters to cut its emission by around 30% by 2030. For the betterment of climate change and with the help of green technology, this paper analyzes the newly issued rule by the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan) Rule No.14 2023 which gave rise to carbon trading through a carbon market as a mechanism to help address its carbon emission levels for the greater cause of climate change. This research will be done using a normative legal approach to aid the interpretation of the already existing legal regime with other secondary sources such as legal journals. Even though the Indonesian Carbon Market is already in effect, one problem lies as the number of users in the carbon market is still relatively small. And as this can be traced due to the still forming legal culture in Indonesia. Furthermore, in comparison to the European Carbon Market or known as the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS), the EU ETS has a more extensive legal regime. Thus, to resolve this issue, socialization of the Indonesian Carbon Market needs to be addressed to the greater society to raise legal awareness and also by adopting a similar legal regime as the one in the EU ETS to help make a bigger, transparent and more extensive carbon market in Indonesia.
