Abstract

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common dermatology diseases that affect young adults. In Indonesia, the prevalence of acne vulgaris rises over the years. The major complication of acne are psychological issues like dissatisfaction of appearance, embarrassment, low self-esteem, social dysfunction, and decreasing in quality of life. The purpose of this research is to know the impact of acne vulgaris on psychological status and quality of life of UPH Faculty of Medicine students. This research was conducted in a categorical analytic comparative study with cross-sectional design. Sampling was done using purposive sampling method, by filling the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) questionnaires. This research was done between January and May 2018. The results of the collected data was analyzed using Chi Square. Bivariate analysis from 65 respondents shows significant relationship between degree of acne vulgaris with quality of life (p<0.005) and self esteem (p<0.005), significant relationship between gender with self esteem (p=0.043), but there’s no significant relationship between gender with quality of life (p=0.416). Acne vulgaris in more severe degree cause a more severe alteration in quality of life, and also cause a decline in self esteem. Female gender tends to have normal self esteem compared to male (OR=3.500) / Akne vulgaris merupakan salah satu penyakit dermatologi yang paling sering terjadi terutama pada kalangan dewasa muda. Di Indonesia akne vulgaris memilik i prevalensi yang makin lama meningkat. Komplikasi yang cukup berdampak adalah isu-isu psikologis seperti ketidakpuasan terhadap penampilan, rasa malu, tidak percaya diri, disfungsi sosial, serta penurunan kualitas hidup. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak dari akne vulgaris terhadap status psikologis dan kualitas hidup mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran UPH. Jenis penelitian ini adalah studi analitik komparatif kategorik tidak berpasangan dengan desain potong lintang. Metode pengambilan sampel merupakan purposive sampling, dengan mengisi kuesioner Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) dan Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES). Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Januari hingga Mei 2018. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik Chi Square. Hasil analisis bivariat dari 65 responden didapatkan bahwa derajat akne vulgar is memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan kualitas hidup (p<0.005) dan kepercayaan diri (p<0.005), jenis kelamin memiliki hubungan yang signifika n dengan kepercayaan diri (p=0.043), namun tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifika n antara jenis kelamin dan kualitas hidup (p=0.416). Semakin berat derajat akne vulgaris menyebabkan gangguan pada kualitas hidup yang semakin berat, serta menyebabkan penurunan kepercayaan diri. Jenis kelamin perempuan lebih cenderung memiliki kepercayaan diri yang normal dibandingka n dengan laki-laki (OR=3.500).
