Abstract

The high use of antibiotics among the society can increase the risk of antibiotic resistance. Free use of antibiotics does not only occur in adults but also in children without knowing the risks of using these antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of parental awareness of antibiotic usage in children and the factors that influence it. This cross-sectional study was conducted from January to June 2018 in TK, Puskesmas, and Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam in Tangerang. The target of this study is parents who have children aged 1-5 years. Data analysis was using the chi square test. Out of 200 respondents, there were 96 parents (46%) who had a low level of awareness of antibiotics usage in children. The level of education (p 0.005), economic status (p 0.019), and occupation (p 0.004) had a significant relationship with the level of parents awarness of antibiotics usage in children. Age (p 0.092), health insurance (p 0.274), and the types of health insurance (p 0.108) did not have a significant relationship to the level of awareness of parents on antibiotic usage in children. The conclusion of this study is the level of education, economic status and employment affect the level of parents awareness of antibiotic usage in children / Penggunaan antibiotik yang tinggi di kalangan masyarakat dapat meningkatkan resiko resistensi antibiotik. Penggunaan antibiotik yang bebas tidak hanya terjadi pada orang dewasa tetapi juga pada anak-anak tanpa mengetahui resiko dari penggunaan antibiotik tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui tingkat kesadaran orang tua terhadap penggunaan antibiotik pada anak dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Studi potong lintang ini dilakukan dari bulan Januari hingga Juni 2018 di TK, Puskesmas, dan Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam yang berada di Tangerang. Target penelitian ini adalah orang tua yang memiliki anak berumur 1- 5 tahun. Analisa data dengan menggunakan uji chi square. Dari 200 responden terdapat 96 orang tua (46%) yang memiliki tingkat kesadaran yang rendah terhadap penggunaan antibiotik pada anak. Tingkat pendidikan (p 0,005), status ekonomi (p 0,019), dan pekerjaan (p 0,004) memiliki hubungan yang bermakna dengan tingkat kesadaran orang tua terhadap penggunaan antibiotik pada anak. Usia (p 0,092), asuransi kesehatan (p 0,274), dan jenis asuransi kesehatan (p 0,108) tidak memiliki hubungan yang bermakna terhadap tingkat kesadaran orang tua terhadap penggunaan antibiotik pada anak. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah tingkat pendikan, status ekonomi dan pekerjaan mempengaruhi tingkat kesadaran orang tua terhadap penggunaan antibiotik pada anak.
