PENGARUH LOW AROUSAL MUSIC TERHADAP TINGKAT KONSENTRASI, MEMORI, DAN PRESTASI AKADEMIK MAHASISWA FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UPH ANGKATAN 2020-2022
Latar belakang: Musik adalah sebuah aspek atau bagian yang lazim dari kehidupan sehari-hari dan juga diketahui dapat membangkitkan respons emosional yang dapat dikaitkan dengan gairah atau arousal fisiologis. Berdasarkan penelitian masa lalu dan sekarang, gairah didefinisikan sebagai respons emosional awal. Musik dapat mengubah suasana hati (senang atau sedih) dan keadaan gairah (positif atau negatif) sesuai dengan genre atau tipe musik yang di dengarkan oleh pendengar. Kemampuan seseorang untuk konsentrasi dapat dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal maupun eksternal, yang akan kemudian mempengaruhi kemampuan otak untuk menangkap dan merekam informasi sebagai bahan memori. Didapati bahwa musik (terutama low arousal music) memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap tingkat konsentrasi dan memori melalui berbagai cara, salah satunya dengan cara mempengaruhi gairah dan suasana hati. Beberapa penelitian berkaitan dengan hal ini telah dibuat, namun belum terdapat penelitian di Indonesia yang secara spesifik menilai efektivitas pengaruh dari low arousal music terhadap tingkat konsentrasi, memori, dan prestasi akademik.
Tujuan Penelitian: Untuk mengetahui apakah adanya pengaruh mendengarkan low arousal music terhadap tingkat konsentrasi, memori, dan pencapaian akademik mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran.
Hipotesis: Adanya pengaruh antara mendengarkan low arousal music terhadap tingkat konsentrasi, memori, dan prestasi akademik.
Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi retrospektif cohort dengan populasi sampel penelitian mahasiswa pre-klinik Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan angkatan 2020-2022. 87 orang sampel akan dipilih secara acak menggunakan teknik randomized allocation.
Kesimpulan: Ditemukan hubungan signifikan antara mendengarkan low arousal music terhadap tingkat konsentrasi, memori, prestasi akademik mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan.

THE EFFECT OF LOW AROUSAL MUSIC ON THE LEVELS OF CONCENTRATION, MEMORY, AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF UPH FACULTY OF MEDICINE STUDENTS CLASS OF 2020-2022
Background: Music is a common aspect or part of everyday life and is also known to evoke emotional responses that can be associated with physiological arousal. Based on past and present research, arousal is defined as the initial emotional response. Music can change mood (happy or sad) and state of arousal (positive or negative) according to the genre or type of music the listener is listening to. A person's ability to concentrate can be influenced by internal and external factors, which will then affect the brain's ability to capture and record information as memory material. It was found that music (especially low arousal music) has a positive influence on the level of concentration and memory in various ways, one of which is by influencing arousal and mood. Several studies related to this have been made, but there is no research in Indonesia that specifically assesses the effectiveness of the influence of low arousal music on levels of concentration, memory, and academic achievement.
Research Objectives: To determine whether there is an effect of listening to low arousal music on the level of concentration, memory, and academic achievement of medical students.
Hypothesis: There is an effect of listening to low arousal music on the level of concentration, memory, and academic achievement.
Methods: This study used a retrospective cohort study design with a sample population of pre-clinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University, class of 2020-2022. 87 sample people will be randomly selected using a randomized allocation technique.
Conclusion: A significant relationship was found between listening to low arousal music on the level of concentration, memory, and academic achievement of students at the medical faculty at Pelita Harapan University.
