Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that has a very rich flora biodiversity and abundant availability. Many scientists are competing to empower these kinds of flora for the medical field. Among them are Betel Leaves and Guava which are very easy to find everywhere so there are many studies on the use of these leaves, one of which is both leaf extracts proven to be bactericidal because of the phenol, oil, and fatty acids contained in it so that both extracts can become an alternative to be used as an antiseptic raw material. The purpose of this study was to find out the antiseptic ability of Betel Leaf extract, Guava Leaf, or a mixture of both as an antiseptic by looking at its ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli bacteria. The test method used is the agar plate diffusion method where the Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli media were observed inhibitory zones formed from leaf extracts with a concentration of 12.5%, 25%, 50%, positive control, and negative controls. The study was conducted from January to July 2018. Data processing used categorical and categorical bivariate analysis. It is proven that Betel Leaf Extract has the strongest antiseptic power compared to other extracts which are characterized by an average inhibition zone formed on the medium of Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli greater than Guava extract and a mixture of Betel Leaf with Guava in various extract concentrations / Indonesia merupakan negara tropis yang memiliki keanekaragaman hayati flora yang sangat kaya dan ketersediaan yang sangat melimpah.
