Abstract

The topic of this thesis is the escalating perception of Islamophobia in Western Europe with multiculturalism that takes place in Western Europe as the background. Multiculturalism which occurs in countries that are not prepared to deal with it, may result in some problems. In this case, one of the results is the escalating perception of Islamophobia. This thesis shall focus on describing the phenomenon of Islamophobia in Western Europe. Therefore, the research question that are going to be answered throughout this thesis are: “How can the perception of Islamophobia escalate in Western Europe?” and “How is Islamophobia being manifested in Western Europe?“. The goal of this thesis is to give an insight of what Islamophobia is and why it can escalate in Western Europe. In order to achieve the goal, the writer shall use some theories, namely Constructivism theory, Globalization theory, and Sociology theory for the more detailed aspects. To describe the development of Islamophobia in Western Europe, the writer uses qualitative research method. Islamophobia is a complex phenomenon and therefore, the writer shall use some perspectives to view why Islamophobia can be developed in Western Europe.
