Abstract

Background Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the common bacteria found in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. As well as, it is a bacillus gram negative bacteria which is opportunistic, pathogenic, virulent, has broad spectrum, and a high prevalence of Multi Drug Resistance (MDR) in the ICU. Objective To obtain sensitivity pattern of Acinetobacter baumannii towards many types of antibiotics in ICU. Materials and Methods This is a retrospective cross-sectional observational study in 221 patients admitted to Siloam Teaching Hospital ICU from January 2016 to December 2017. Data will be obtained from Siloam Teaching Hospital ICU patient’s database. Data tabulation and analysis will be done using Microsoft Excel 2010 and SPSS 24. Results From the total of 221 samples in this study, 67.9% of them are men infected or colonized by A.baumannii with an average age of 51.25 years. The highest source of specimens in this study came from sputum with 83.7%. The susceptibility pattern of A.baumannii to various antibiotics was found, whereas the antibiotics which are still sensitive are: Amikacin with 59.7%, Cefoperazone/Sulbactam with 58.8%, Tigecycline with 46.2%, and Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole with 39.8 %. Conclusion From this study, we developed a sensitivity pattern of Acinetobacter baumannii to various antibiotics at Siloam Teaching Hospital ICU, which are still sensitive for A.baumannii infected or colonized patients are: Amikacin, Cefoperazone/Sulbactam, Tigecycline, and Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole / Latar Belakang Acinetobacter baumannii merupakan salah satu bakteri yang sering ditemukan pada pasien-pasien Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
