Abstract
Having taken office on January 2017, President Donald Trump brought the US to a new direction of its foreign policy. The US objectives and the way to achieve its national interests will be determined on how President Donald Trump conduct its power and turn it into vivid foreign policy. Southeast Asia will be affected with the US new foreign policy direction. The US foreign policy in Indo-Pacific will be crucial in maintaining the US interests and influence—Southeast Asian countries’ responses no exception. Realism believes that a country must put its national interests by using its power to survive in the anarchy international system. The research shows that the country’s behavior must be assessed through its foreign policy and how it is being implemented. Determining the national interests, this research will explain how countries in the region compete to maintain its survival. This research was conducted using the descriptive method and conveying data through literature studies and historical studies. The research shows that the US security foreign policy in the region has improved compared to Obama presidency, however, until the President Trump’s term end. There will be possibilities that might happened and change the dynamic in the region. The implications towards Southeast Asian countries will play a huge role in the US national interests in Indo-Pacific.
