Abstract

Feelings of anxiety are often experienced by the most people when visiting healthcare facilities, especially children. This anxiety can be triggered by several factors, one of which is the clinic's atmosphere. A room that seems sterile and minimally decorated can make visitors lose their identity due to the lack of elements that show personalization. Limited activities also shift attention to the clinic's atmosphere. Therefore, clinic design should create a therapeutic atmosphere to provide positive distractions so that visitors, especially children, do not feel excessive anxiety. Mom & Child Care Clinic is a maternal and child health clinic that is used as a case study in this therapeutic clinic design project. Observation results found that the use of shophouse (ruko) buildings disrupts the indoor and outdoor relationship, causing the clinic's atmosphere to be isolated. The lack of activities in the waiting room also triggers anxiety in parents and children. To create a positive distraction, there needs to be sensory stimulation from inside and outside the clinic environment. Therefore, the use of biophilic approaches can be a solution to the existing problems. The interior design of Mom & Child Care Clinic aims to produce a design that can maximize visitor comfort through therapeutic design and integrate indoor and outdoor relationships. This project's design is also carried out with a biophilic approach aimed at providing a physically and psychologically healthy space experience, educating, and optimizing interactions between patients and clinic staff. Through this design, it is hoped that the Mom & Child Care Clinic's healthcare facilities can be optimized for the better physical and mental health of mothers and children.
