Abstract
After the pro-Russian Ukrainian president are ousted by what Russia called as a western backed coup, Russia’s strategic interest in the Crimean Peninsula are threatened. Russian diaspora in Ukraine are also threatened as consequence of the changing of the distribution of power in Ukraine. As Russia’s interests are threatened, Russia moves to annex the Crimean Peninsula into its territory after it seceded from Ukraine. This action have caused a lot of controversy in the international community following condemnation from Ukraine and its new allies. This means that Russia have to defend its strategic interests in the Peninsula. But, as military action is highly controversial, Therefore Russia have to utilize its economic tools and actions in order to answer the challenges its face as the consequence of its action. So, in order to understand Russia’s interests and economic instruments, this research analyze the data gathered from multiple sources using the framework of Neorealism and the research method of Qualitative – Descriptive method. This research found that the region holds strategic importance for Russia’s national interest and are detrimental for its foreign policy. It also found the dynamics of the relationship between its actors. Furthermore, this research have found how Russia used its economic instruments in Crimea. / Setelah pemerintah Ukraina yang pro-Rusia digulingkan oleh sesuatu yang dianggap Rusia sebagai kudeta yang didukung oleh negara barat, kepentingan strategis Rusia di semenanjung Krimea terancam. Diaspora Rusia di Ukraina juga terancam karena pergantian distribusi kekuatan di Ukraina. Karena kepentingan Rusia terancam, Rusia menganeksasi semenanjung Krimea menjadi bagian dari wilayahnya setelah Krimea memisahkan diri dari Ukraina. Apa yang Rusia lakukan mengundang kontroversi bagi komunitas internasional dan mengundang kecaman dari Ukraina dan sekutu-sekutu barunya. Hal ini berarti Rusia harus melindungi kepentingan strategis nya di semananjung tersebut. Tetapi karena aksi militer dapat mengundang lebih banyak kontroversi, Rusia harus menggunakan alat-alat dan tindakan-tindakan ekonomi untuk menjawab tantangan yang muncul dari tindakannya menganeksasi Krimea. Maka itu, agar kepentingan dan strategi ekonomi Rusia dapat dipahami, penelitian ini menganalisir data yang sudah dikumpulkan dari beragai sumber menggunakan kerangka berpikir Neorealis dan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif – deskriptif. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa wilayah tersebut memiliki kepentingan strategis Rusia yang dianggap penting bagi kepentingan nasional nya dan juga untuk kebijakan luar negeri nya. Penelitian ini juga telah meneliti dinamika dan hubungan antar aktornya. Penelitian ini juga telah menemukan instumen economic yang digunakkan Rusia di semenanjung Krimea
