Background The increasing of Body Mass Index has an influence toward blood tension. The normal range of Body Mass Index is between 18.5 to 25, if the Body Mass Index exceed this normal limit the risk of hypertension will be increased. Aim To prove the relationship between Body Mass Index and increasing prevalence of prehypertension. Methods Cross sectional study of sample from stundents of Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan batch 2015 from January to March 2018, measuring body height, body height, and blood pressure. Result The risk of hypertension is increased by 5,48 times in sample with normal BMI compare to overweight-obese BMI. Conclusion Number of BMI is related with the increased number of prevalence of prehypertension / Latar Belakang Indeks massa tubuh yang meningkat dapat memengaruhi tekanan darah. Indeks massa tubuh yang normal berkisar antara 18,5 sampai 25, jika melebihi batas ini maka akan meningkatkan risiko hipertensi. Tujuan Membuktikan pengaruh besarnya indeks massa tubuh seseorang terhadap prevalensi hipertensi. Metode Penelitian Metode potong lintang (cross sectional) pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan angkatan 2015 periode Januari sampai Maret 2018 dengan cara mengambil data tinggi badan, berat badan, dan tekanan darah. Hasil Prevalensi prehipertensi meningkat sebesar 5,48 kali lebih tinggi pada sampel dengan BMI overweight-obese dibandingkan dengan BMI normal. Kesimpulan Terdapat hubungan antara besarnya indeks massa tubuh dengan peningkatan prevalensi prehipertensi.
