Abstract

This research aims to examine and analyze the antecedent influence of fear of missing out (FOMO) and its impact on hospital choice which is mediated by hospital image and surgeon's reputation at the Specialized Aesthetic Surgery Hospital (RSBE). There are four dependent variables as antecedents of FOMO, namely body self-relation issues, following the influencer, need for popularity, and peer pressure. The research is survey research with quantitative data analysis, where data is obtained cross-sectionally. Purposive sampling was carried out to obtain respondents who were prospective patients with plans to undergo aesthetic plastic surgery at RSBE. The survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire instrument in March 2024, and 171 respondents met the requirements. The Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method is used to analyze the structural model. The results of this study show sufficient evidence to state that the four independent variables have a significant and positive influence on FOMO (p-value <0.05, CI 95%). The greatest influence is shown by body self-relation issues and peer pressure. The greatest mediation influence was found in the surgeon’s reputation. Furthermore, it was found that the direct influence of FOMO on hospital image was smaller than the surgeon's reputation and hospital image. This research model has R2=0.764 which includes strong explanatory power with a cross-validated predictive ability test (CVPAT) which is classified as strong predictive validity. The findings of this research can provide input in understanding FOMO the motives of prospective patients for hospital marketing and the importance of managing the reputation of plastic surgeons.
