Abstract

From the perspective of space management, limited number of rooms reside in a building are physical resource that needs to be managed properly. In this context, various smart ways are available to support administrative task, such as room reservation, and controlling the use of the room. In this final project, a computer simulation of a mini system dealing with the room reservation and occupation is developed. The simulation is designed to demonstrate how each available room can be reserved and scheduled to allow people enter in by unlocking its door. The door of the occupied room will be closed when the end time of its duration is reached. For mimicking this situation each room’s door is represented by a single LED. The LED will turn on, indicating that the door is unlocked, when the vacant room associated with that LED is ready for use, and vice versa. The computer command for controlling the LED is sent through RS 232 serial communication from the computer to the microcontroller AT89S52. The functionality of the system of three LEDs is examined 36 times using single scenario. The result shows that based on each room schedule, microcontroller can successfully recognize and execute the control command.
