Abstract

Formula serum antioksidan yang paling optimal adalah F III (3%)./ Cocoa pod husk (Theobroma cacao L.) have secondary metabolites of alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins which are known to have antioxidant activity that can be utilized as facial cosmetics. This study aims to assess the physicochemical characteristics, physical and chemical stability of serum with varying concentrations of 70% ethanol extract of cocoa pod skin and to determine the antioxidant activity of extracts and serum preparations. Serum preparations of cocoa pod extract F I (1%), F II (2%), and F III (3%) were optimized with variations of gelling agents (natrosol; xanthan gum; carbomer) and humectants (propylene; glycerin; butylene). From the antioxidant activity test, it was found that the extract has strong antioxidant properties with 〖IC〗_50 of 50.296 μg/ml. The results of the cocoa fruit peel serum preparation formula test have good physical stability in storage for 7 days and meet the requirements of organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, and viscosity. The antioxidant test results of serum preparations in the three formulations showed weak antioxidant activity with the lowest 〖IC〗_50 value in F III, which was 209.773 μg/ml. This study concluded that 70% ethanol extract of cocoa fruit skin has antioxidant activity, the best base optimization for serum preparation is xanthan gum and the best humectant is glycerin. The most optimal antioxidant serum formula is F III (3%).
