Abstract
Impetigo, commonly affecting infants to adolescents, is caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Typically, impetigo is treated with topical antibiotics such as creams. However, the use of antibiotic creams can lead to harmful side effects, making herbal creams a necessary alternative. One plant with antibacterial properties is the bandotan leaf (Ageratum conyzoides L.). This study involves the preparation of simplisia and extracts, phytochemical analysis, formulation of bandotan leaf extract cream, and evaluation of the cream through organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH testing, viscosity, spreadability, adhesiveness, and antibacterial testing using the well diffusion method. Antibacterial testing was conducted with 96% ethanol extract of bandotan leaves at concentrations of 1,000,000 ppm, 500,000 ppm, 100,000 ppm, and 10,000 ppm, as well as positive control gentamicin 15 µg and negative control DMSO 10%. The antibacterial activity test results showed inhibition zones of 15.25 mm at 1,000,000 ppm; 14.36 mm at 500,000 ppm; 11.73 mm at 100,000 ppm; 11.42 mm at 50,000 ppm; and 10.27 mm at 10,000 ppm. These results indicate no significant differences when tested using SPSS. Creams were made with 96% ethanol extract of bandotan leaves at concentrations of 1%, 4%, and 8%, which were then evaluated and tested for stability. The results indicated that the 1% concentration cream was the most stable and met the requirements until the end of the testing period.
