Abstract

Latar Belakang: Merokok masih menjadi masalah utama kesehatan masyarakat di seluruh dunia. Telah banyak penelitian yang menunjukkan dampak-dampak negatif merokok bagi kesehatan termasuk kesehatan kardiorespirasi. Kegiatan merokok paling sering dimulai pada usia remaja dan paling tinggi populasinya di masa remaja akhir (20-24 tahun). Volume Oksigen Maksimal (VO2max) yang akan diukur pada subjek di penelitian ini menjadi gold standard tingkat kebugaran kardiorespirasi seseorang. Tujuan Penelitian: Mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dari VO2max antara perokok berat dan bukan perokok pada populasi remaja laki-laki usia 20-24 tahun di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Hipotesis: Terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara VO2max perokok berat dan bukan perokok pada populasi remaja laki-laki usia 20-24 tahun di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi analitik numerik komparatif tidak berpasangan. Metode sampling yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling pada 53 remaja laki-laki usia 20-24 tahun di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Penelitian ini mengukur VO2max menggunakan Chester step test. Hasil: Dari 53 sampel penelitian, didapatkan 23 sampel perokok berat dan 30 sampel bukan perokok yang telah diuji dan dianalisa menggunakan aplikasi Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 29.0. Hasil uji independent sample T-test menunjukkan adanya perbedaan VO2max antara perokok berat dan bukan perokok yang signifikan (P-value < 0,001). Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan dari VO2max antara perokok berat dan bukan perokok. Referensi: 58 (1998-2023). Many studies have shown the negative health effects of smoking, including cardiorespiratory health. Smoking activity most often starts in adolescence and is highest in late adolescence (20-24 years old). Maximal Oxygen Volume (VO2max) which will be measured in the subjects in this study becomes the gold standard of a person's cardiorespiratory fitness level. Objective: To determine whether there is a significant difference in the VO2max between heavy smokers and non-smokers in the population of male adolescents aged 20-24 years at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Hypothesis: There is a significant difference between the VO2max of heavy smokers and non-smokers in the population of male adolescents aged 20-24 years at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Methods: This study used an unpaired comparative numerical analytic study design. The sampling method used was purposive sampling on 53 male adolescent aged 20-24 years at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. This study measured VO2max using the Chester step test. Results: Of the 53 research samples, 23 heavy smokers and 30 non-smokers were tested and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29.0. The results of the independent sample T-test showed a significant difference in VO2max between heavy smokers and non-smokers (P-value <0.001). Conclusion: This study showed a significant difference of VO2max between heavy smokers and non-smokers. Reference: 58(1998-2023).
