Abstract
Kata kunci: IMT, kelebihan berat badan, tingkat risiko OSA/Background: OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) is a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by periodic narrowing and blockage of the pharyngeal airway during sleep. OSA that is not managed properly can result in long-term health problems such as heart problems, metabolic system disorders, cognitive disorders, poor quality sleep, nocturia, morning headaches, irritability, and memory problems. The most common risk factor for OSA is being overweight. Until now, Body Mass Index (BMI), especially the overweight category, is still a global problem. Therefore, it is important to carry out this research to find out how big the relationship is between being overweight and the level of risk of suffering from OSA. Objective: To determine the magnitude of the cause-and-effect relationship between being overweight and the level of risk of suffering from OSA in students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Materials and Methods: This research is a study with a cross-sectional approach. The research was carried out by measuring height, weight, neck circumference, blood pressure, and filling out a STOP-Bang questionnaire to assess the level of OSA risk. The sampling method used in this research was non-probability purposive and statistical analysis used the chi-square test with data processing using SPSS 29. Results: Based on the results of the bivariate test using the chi-square test, a P value of 0.001 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between being overweight and the level of risk of developing OSA in students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. This is in line with previous research by Rizky Agung Maulana et al. (2024) P value = 0,0001 and Hapipah et al. (2023) P value = 0,043. In these studies it was stated that subjects who had overweight and obese BMIs were proven to have a greater risk of having a high risk of OSA, when compared with normal BMIs and low BMIs. Key words: BMI, overweight, OSA risk level.
