Abstract

Kata Kunci : kafein, gangguan menstruasi, mahasiswa./Background : According to research from the National Dietary Consumption, it is estimated that 87% of the world's population consumes caffeine 194 ml/day. Caffeine-containing drinks have become part of the urban lifestyle, especially among young women. In Indonesia, the level of caffeine consumption is increasing by 20% per year, reaching 90% of caffeine consumption per day. Menstrual disorders that commonly occur in adolescent girls include dysmenorrhea, hypermenorrhea, polymenorrhea, and oligomenorrhea. One of the causes of menstrual disorders is the habit of high caffeine consumption. Research Objective : To determine the relationship between caffeine consumption level and menstrual disorders. Hypothesis : Caffeine consumption level affects menstrual disorders. Research Methods : This study used a cross-sectional study method on 98 female student respondents of the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University who met the research criteria. Research Results : The level of caffeine consumption was found to have a significant relationship with oligomenorrhea (OR 11.100; p=0.039). There was no significant association of caffeine consumption level with polymenorrhea, hypermenorrhea, and dysmenorrhea (p>0.05). Conclusion : Based on this study, there is a significant relationship between caffeine consumption level and oligomenorrhea in female students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University. Further research needs to be done to examine the relationship. Keywords : caffeine, menstrual disorders, medical student.
