Abstract
"Social issues that exist in society, especially regarding the female gender, still occur in Indonesia. Women are generally often subordinate to men. This is due to a sense of dominance by men that makes women unable to have freedom. This often silences women from speaking according to their wishes or having the right to freedom, even though all humans have the right to freedom. This issue has been going on for a long time, which has made Indonesian films increasingly creative in raising this issue and making films to build public awareness that without us realizing it, women are still subordinate to men. This research on patriarchal society in the film Gadis Kretek shows the existence of patriarchy between genders, the film shows how the main character in the film fights for the freedom and hopes that have been desired for a long time. This study uses the theory of symbols and meaning (Saussure) and the theory of feminism (muted theory and stand point theory) to analyze the film "Gadis Kretek". Researchers will look at each scene in detail to understand how this film depicts gender inequality and the struggles of the main character. The results of the study show how women can fight stigma and standpoint theories and muted theories that openly silence women's property rights. This film proves that as a woman we must try our best to achieve whatever we want without any fear".
