Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana model wanita profesional di Indonesia memaknai citra tubuh dalam penggunaan media sosial Instagram. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi, penelitian ini melibatkan tiga model profesional dengan durasi pengalaman berbeda (4-15 tahun). Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam via Zoom dan observasi non-terstruktur terhadap aktivitas Instagram partisipan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tiga temuan utama seperti pengalaman dalam industri modeling mengubah cara model memaknai citra tubuh mereka, dimana karakteristik yang awalnya dianggap kekurangan berubah menjadi aset profesional, dengan model senior menunjukkan penerimaan diri yang lebih dibandingkan model junior. Model mengembangkan beragam pendekatan dalam menggunakan Instagram, mulai dari yang sangat profesional dengan pembatasan konten hingga penggunaan platform untuk mendorong representasi yang lebih inklusif. Instagram memiliki pengaruh kompleks terhadap persepsi citra tubuh, meski dapat memicu perbandingan sosial dan tekanan untuk tampil sempurna, platform ini juga menjadi wadah untuk mendorong standar kecantikan yang lebih inklusif di Indonesia. Model mengembangkan berbagai strategi protektif, dari pembatasan konten hingga praktik kesehatan mental. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi pada pemahaman tentang dinamika antara profesi modeling, penggunaan media sosial, dan pembentukan citra tubuh dalam konteks industri fashion Indonesia/This study aims to understand how professional female models in Indonesia interpret body image through their use of Instagram. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study involved three professional models with varying years of experience (4-15 years). Data was collected through in-depth interviews via Zoom and unstructured observations of participants Instagram activities. The research revealed three main findings: experience in the modeling industry transforms how models interpret their body image, where characteristics initially perceived as flaws become professional assets, with senior models showing better self-acceptance compared to junior models. Models develop various approached in using Instagram, ranging from strictly professional content restriction to using the platform to promote more inclusive representation. Instagram has complex influence on body image perception, while it can trigger social comparison and pressure to appear perfect, the platform also served as a medium to promote more inclusive beauty standards in Indonesia. Models develop various protective strategies, from content restriction to mental health practices. This research contributes to understanding the dynamics between modeling profession. Social media use, and body image formation in the context of Indonesia fashion industry.
