Abstract

Self-esteem has become an increasingly discussed topic over the years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous studies (e.g., Vogel et al, 2014; Valkenburg et al, 2017; Jiang & Ngien, 2020; Savira et al, 2022) have examined the impact of social media on self-esteem; however, due to the variety of social media platforms offering diverse features, these studies have produced varying and inconsistent results. This research focuses on one specific aspect of social media, short-form video. Data collection was conducted using a convenience sampling technique with a questionnaire, targeting active university students aged 18-24 residing in the Jabodetabek area as the inclusion criteria. Measurements were taken by distributing the questionnaire to 112 respondents, and analysis was then carried out. This study shows that there is no significant relationship between short-form video addiction behavior and self-esteem among university students (ρ=0,073, p=0,446). This indicates that although individuals with different levels of self-esteem may exhibit varying degrees of short-form video addiction behavior.
