Abstract

The phenomenon of online game addiction has become a significant global issue, where addiction harms both oneself and others. This study aimed to examine the role of loneliness in online game addiction. Employing a quantitative method with purposive sampling, the study involved emerging adult males aged 18-29 in Jabodetabek area (N=150). The UCLA Loneliness Scale and Game Addiction Scale were used as measurement tools. Results showed a significant positive correlation between loneliness and online game addiction (R^2= .026, b= .381, p=.048, p<.05). The higher the level of loneliness, the higher the tendency to experience online game addiction. This study indicates that when individuals experiencing loneliness find social satisfaction in online games, continuous engagement in this behavior can develop into addiction.
