Abstract
Russia-China trade interdependence had existed before Russia annexed Crimea, but after the annexation and invasion of Ukraine, there was a strengthening of Russia-China trade interdependence due to the decreasing trade with European countries, so that Russia became increasingly dependent on China in trade. Likewise, China also depends on Russia through the purchase of weapons. Seeing that there is a strengthening interdependence, it will make trade relations much more intensive. This study intends to determine the causes of the strengthening of trade interdependence relations and the impacts other than the economy that are felt with the existence of interdependence. To examine the causes of the strengthening of trade interdependence relations and the impacts other than the economy, this study uses a neoliberal perspective, assisted by the concept of national interest, comparative advantage theory, interdependence, and reciprocity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-comparative research method. Through the analysis of the data collection, the author found that the Russia-China interdependence relationship is manifested through Russia which is dependent on the percentage of trade with China, for China it is manifested by dependence on the purchase of weapons technology owned by Russia. With the realization of Russia-China trade interdependence, there is a deeper motive besides economic benefits, namely leading simultaneously in the Central Asian region. Seeing that China with its economic influence is not enough to maintain the stability and security of the Central Asian region, Russia's presence is needed to accommodate the Central Asian countries which are former Soviet Union countries with their culture, system, and influence.
