Abstract

The patient's knowledge about the disease can affect adherence to this treatment. This study aims to determine the magnitude of the influence of knowledge on adherence treatment. Objectives:Knowing the relationship between the level of knowledge of Type 2 DM patients will be measured using the DKQ-24 (Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire) questionnaire and medication adherence which will be measured using the Medication Adherence Report Scale (MARS-5)Methods:The study design of this research is cross-sectional. This study was conducted on 87 patients with diabetes mellitus who were treated at Siloam General Hospital Lippo Village Tangerang, Indonesia. Knowledge about diabetes mellitus was measured using the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire 24 (DKQ24). Treatment adherence was measured using the MMAS-8 (Modified Morisky Adherence Scale) questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed with chi-square and multivariate logistic regression to control the effects of the other variables studied. Result: he population characteristics of the gender is 44,8% male and 55,2% female. The proportion of adult patients is 23% and elderly 77%. Knowledge levels are 21,8% low and 78,2% in moderategood level. The education of the patients is 17,2% junior high school, 44,8% senior high school, and 37,9 % bachelor's degree. The adherence level to medication is 29,9% low and 70,1% moderate-high. Chi-square and multivariate logistic regression showed only knowledge levels significantly related to medication adherence, with p in continuity correction < 0,01 and p in logistic regression <0,1 and OR =13,1.Conclusions:Knowledge about the disease significantly impacts adherence to medication in diabetes mellitus patients. at Siloam Hospital Lippo Village
