Abstract
Football has become a strategic instrument for gaining influence around the world, especially in the Middle East, where nations like Saudi Arabia use it to their advantage politically, economically, and socially. This analysis explores how Saudi Arabia leverages investments in international football to meet its geopolitical and economic goals, in line with the Vision 2030 strategy to lessen reliance on oil earnings and improve its standing internationally. This study investigates the relationship between political strategy and sports diplomacy, guided by the theories of realism, soft power, and national interest. The data is gained using data from official statements from government and football officials, media reports, and scholarly literature analyzed using qualitative descriptive methodology. This proves that Saudi Arabia’s football investments are tools of soft power, and geopolitical strategy, enhancing its international standing, diversifying its economy, and fostering domestic unity. According to the study’s findings, Saudi Arabia has successfully established itself as a key actor in international sports diplomacy by using football to strike a balance between its influence abroad and its own domestic growth, underscoring the sport’s increasing importance as a political instrument in international affairs.
