Abstract

This study investigates the impact of leverage on the financial performance of consumer goods companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Focusing on data from 286 sample firms across 2022 and 2023, the research aims to provide insights into the relationship between leverage and financial outcomes within the consumer goods sector. A quantitative research methodology is employed, utilizing statistical analysis to assess the significance and direction of leverage (DER) on financial performance (ROE). The findings reveal a significant positive relationship, as seen from the value of t-count > t-table, 128.642 > 1.650 and significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that increased leverage enhances financial performance among these firms. The coefficient of determination test showed that 98.3% of the dependent variable can be explained by the independent variables used in this research, while the remaining 1.7% are explained by other variables which are not examined in this research. These findings imply that consumer goods companies in Indonesia could benefit from strategic leverage to boost profitability and efficiency. Implications are significant for financial managers and investors, emphasizing the potential advantages of leverage in emerging markets. This research provides a basis for further studies on leverage strategies across similar sectors and markets.
