Abstract
Most grade X students think that chemistry is a difficult subject because of a lack of interest on their part and a traditionalist teaching style. Therefore, this study aims to discover and document some actions and teaching strategies that can increase grade X students’ interest in learning chemistry. This study took place in Jakarta July 21 to 26 November of the 2009/2010 academic year. This is an action research study, consisting of three cycles with 46 students in grade X. The research instruments used for data gathering are observation, interview, personal reflection and feedback from, a teacher mentor, teacher educators and the students. The results of this study indicate that a mixed approach using multimedia, lab experimentation, and discussion of relevant subjects can increase students’ interest in learning chemistry.

Diidentifikasi bahwa sebagian besar siswa kelas X menganggap kimia adalah pelajaran yang sulit, hal disebabkan oleh kesalahpahaman tentang kimia dan penyajian guru yang tradisionalis. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan mendokumentasi strategi-strategi yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan minat belajar kimia siswa kelas X. Penelitian ini bertempat di Jakarta pada 21 July sampai 26 November, tahun ajaran 2009/2010. Disain penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, yang terdiri dari tiga siklus dengan jumlah siswa kelas X sebanyak 46 orang. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data meliputi pengamatan awal, dokumentasi, pengamatan, journal refleksi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa penggunaan multimedia, lab experiment, dan mendiskusikan relevansi atau aplikasi dari kimia dapat meningkatkan minat belajar siswa kelas X.
