Abstract
Terdapat keterkaitan khusus antara emosi seorang guru dengan motivasi belajar siswa. Namun, guru-guru lebih mengambil sikap tidak peduli akan pengaruh emosi ini dalam mengajar. Sementara guru tidak peduli dan terus menjalankan “pola” mereka, motivasi belajar siswa semakin “luntur” dan sulit untuk dikembalikan. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap siswa-siswi SMP di sebuah sekolah di Semarang pada tanggal 13 Juli 2009 – 26 November 2009 menggunakan metode tindakan penelitian kelas sebanyak tiga siklus, dengan mengikuti model yang dikembangkan oleh Kemmis & Mc Taggart. Instrumen penelitian berupa observasi, hasil wawancara, dan jurnal refleksi akan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan wilayah kecerdasan emosional, yaitu mengenali emosi diri, mengelola emosi, dan memotivasi diri sendiri sebagai indikator. Sedangkan indikator yang digunakan untuk mengukur motivasi belajar siswa adalah antusiasme, keaktifan dalam belajar dan bertanya, mengerjakan tugas, dan tidak mudah putus asa. Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa terdapat begitu banyak peranan dari seorang guru yang mengajar dengan menggunakan kecerdasan emosionalnya, antara lain dapat menunjukkan profesionalitas kerja dan menjadi teladan serta terang kasih Kristus dalam menangani siswa dengan kasih, siswa yang tidak bekerja sama dengan kegiatan belajar-mengajar dapat ditangani dengan lebih baik, tercipta suasana atau atmosfir belajar yang kondusif, pengajaran efektif, dan memotivasi siswa dalam belajar.

There is a special relationship between emotions of a teacher with motivation to study. However, teachers prefer to take an attitude of ignorant about the emotional impact of this in teaching. While teachers do not care and continue to run the "pattern" with them, the motivation to study may be "faded" and difficult to restore. This research was conducted on students of middle school in Semarang during the period of July 13, 2009 - November 26, 2009 using the method of Classroom Action Research with three cycles, followed the model developed by Kemmis & Mc Taggart. Research instruments of observation, interviews, and journal reflections will be analyzed descriptively. This research is in the area of emotional intelligence, uses emotional intelligence areas, namely self-identify emotions, managing emotions, and self motivation as indicators, while the indicators used to measure student learning motivation is enthusiasm, the participation of students in study and questioning, do their tasks, and not get easily discouraged. The result of this research demonstrated that there are so many roles of a teacher who taught by using his/her emotional intelligence, such as, it can demonstrate his/her professionalism and be an example in the work, and also be a light of Christ's love when he/she handles students with love, better handling of students whom are not cooperative in the teaching and learning process, create a conducive atmosphere for the students to learn, effective teaching, and motivate students in learning.
