Abstract

This study was conducted during the writer’s teaching practicum from July to November 2009. This is a qualitative case study using Gerald Susman’s action research terminology describing the use of humor in teaching grade 8 and grade 11 students in West Kalimantan. This study looks at a teaching strategy that builds classroom environment and teacher-student relationship. The strategy was effective in changing the students’ behavior and perception of the teacher’s role. However, it is only one aspect of creating good classroom environment but it needs good classroom management in order to be effective. / Studi kasus ini dilakukan selama praktikum mengajar penulis yang dilaksanakan pada Juli sampai November 2009. Studi ini merupakan studi kasus kualitatif yang dideskripsikan dengan menggunakan terminology penelitian tindakan kelas dari Gerald Susman yang mendeskripsikan penggunaan humor dalam mengajar siswa kelas 2 SMP dan 2 SMA di Kalimantan Barat. Studi ini dilakukan untuk meninjau strategi mengajar yang dimaksudkan untuk menciptakan suasana kelas yang menunjang pembelajaran dan menciptakan hubungan yang baik antara guru dengan siswa. Strategi yang digunakan terbukti efektif merubah perilaku dan persepsi siswa terhadap peranan guru. Meski demikian, hal ini hanyalah merupakan satu aspek dalam menciptakan suasana kelas yang baik yang perlu dilengkapi oleh management kelas yang baik supaya dapat berhasil.
