Abstract
Media sosial telah menjadi bagian dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Instagram, sebagai media sosial keempat dengan pengguna terbanyak di Indonesia, menjadi sebuah dunia virtual yang mana para penggunanya dapat saling berinteraksi. Hubungan interpersonal dalam media sosial Instagram dapat terlihat melalui pemberian lambang hati atau yang biasa disebut ‘like’. Menariknya adalah bagaimana sebuah simbol hati atau ‘like’ pada sebuah konten yang diunggah sangat diidolakan. Banyak dari pengguna akun instagram seolah-olah berlomba untuk mendapatkan simbol hati paling banyak. Tanpa disadari, lambang hati ini kemudian disepakati bersama maknanya oleh para pengguna instagram. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini berupaya untuk mengetahui bagaimana makna like pada pengguna Instagram. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan data primer, yaitu wawancara dengan 7 informan dan observasi partisipan, serta data sekunder berupa studi kepustakaan. Wawancara dilakukan kepada pengguna aktif Instagram dalam rentang usia 18-24 tahun. Peneliti kemudian mengkaji hasil data dengan teori interaksi simbolik, beserta konsep lainnya seperti konsep komunikasi, media sosial, dan Instagram.
Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan terdapat tiga makna like pada pengguna Instagram. Like dalam media social Instagram dimaknai bersama oleh penggunanya sebagai sebuah penghargaan, tanda persahabatan, dan sebagai tingkat ketertarikan followers./ Social media has become a part of social life. Instagram, as the fourth social media with the most users in Indonesia, has become a virtual world where users can interact with each other. Interpersonal relationships in social media Instagram can be seen through the giving of a heart symbol or commonly called 'like'. Interestingly, how a heart symbol or 'like' on an uploaded content is idolized. Many of Instagram users seem to be racing to get the most heart symbols. Instagram users through interaction then build the meaning of this heart symbol. Thus, this study seeks to find out what are the meanings of ‘like’ for Instagram users. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research method. Data is gathered through interview and observation with 7 informants, as well as secondary data in the form of literature studies. Interviews were conducted with active Instagram users in the age range of 18-24 years. The researcher then examines the results of the data with symbolic interaction theory, along with other concepts such as the concept of communication, social media, and Instagram. The results showed that there are three meanings of likes on Instagram users. Like on social media Instagram is interpreted together by its users as an award, a sign of friendship, and as a level of follower interest.
