Abstract

This study aims to understand user preference patterns on the largest digital game distribution platform, Steam, using data mining techniques, specifically association rule techniques. The Apriori algorithm was chosen for its effectiveness in discovering association patterns among various types of games played by users. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to Steam users in the Indonesian community from August to October 2024. The results indicate that users who play Action games tend to also play RPGs, with a support value of 0.7103, confidence of 0.7755, and lift of 1.0372. Additionally, users aged 25-34 who play Action games are also likely to play Adventure games, with a support value of 0.5636, confidence of 0.6078, and lift of 1.0447. Another finding shows that playing frequency affects user satisfaction. Users who play less than 5 hours reported a satisfaction level of 94.55%, while those who play more than 20 hours reached 99.26%. These results emphasize the importance of understanding user preferences to design more effective marketing strategies on the Steam platform, allowing developers to better meet the needs and expectations of users.
