Abstract

This study aims to explore and evaluate the implementation of Australia’s gastrodiplomacy strategy in Indonesia through the Taste and Create with Australia 2022-2023 program. The program involved various stakeholders to promote Australian products through two main activities: educational workshops and dinner events. The study uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews conducted with informants from government agencies, industry players, and trade partners involved in the program. The key findings show that this program integrates the soft power approach in its gastrodiplomacy strategy. The workshops serve as a platform to provide technical knowledge about the products, while the dinner events function as a venue to strengthen interpersonal relationships among stakeholders and directly showcase the quality of Australian products. Stakeholder engagement is carried out as part of the gastrodiplomacy strategy in this program to create more personal and meaningful relationships. However, there are limitations in the reach of participants involved, which could potentially reduce the long-term impact. . This study provides insights into gastrodiplomacy strategies as tools for cultural and trade diplomacy and emphasizes the importance of optimizing stakeholder engagement to enhance the program’s sustainability.
