The aim of this research is to determine the depiction of women's resistance to patriarchal culture shown in the film Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts (2017). This research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic approach by using signs of denotation, connotation and myth as material for analysis and connecting the results of the findings that have been analyzed with Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist theory. The method used in this research is a qualitative method. The subject of this research is the film Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts (2017) by Director Mouly Surya, which was broadcast on November 16 2017 and has a duration of 1 hour 33 minutes. Researchers divided this film into 26 scenes or scenes that contain elements of patriarchal culture which can also be linked to phenomena or cases that actually occur in Indonesia. This film depicts the resistance of women in East Sumba to forms of treatment from men in a culture that is still full of patriarchy. The findings were analyzed using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist theory which contrasts as if women must always act in accordance with the gender norms that apply in society. The results of this research found several women's resistance who rejected the domination of patriarchal culture, including; women's resistance to stereotypes, women's resistance to subordination, women's resistance to objectification and women's resistance to sexual harassment.
