Abstract

This project explores the resurgence of interest in analog music mediums, particularly vinyl records, among younger generations. Despite the dominance of digital streaming platforms offering accessibility, personalization, and convenience, vinyl records provide a more intimate and immersive music-listening experience. The tactile interaction, visual appeal, and shared physical presence during listening contribute to vinyl’s growing appeal. Modern record players with Bluetooth capabilities also blend old and new technologies, making them more user friendly and appealing. The project aims to redesign the conventional record player by enhancing sensory engagement— especially visual aesthetics—to create a more interactive and immersive product. The goal is to craft a unique music experience that resonates with both seasoned vinyl collectors and newcomers. However, the project faces several constraints. Technological limitations pose a significant challenge, as we must explore unfamiliar materials, hardware, and production methods. Additionally, a lack of prior experience in these technical areas adds complexity. Finding reliable primary and secondary sources to inform the design process is another potential hurdle, which could slow development and hinder the creation of effective methodologies. Overall, this project requires interdisciplinary exploration and learning but holds the potential to redefine how analog music is experienced in a modern context.
