Abstract

As the global urban population continues to increase, predicted to reach 68% by 2050, cities are facing challenges related to food security. Urbanization significantly reduces the availability of agricultural land, forcing cities to depend on food produced in distant rural areas. This system is increasingly inefficient, as the transportation and supply chains that deliver food to urban centers contribute to environmental degradation and lead to food shortages. This research explores the integration of hydroponic systems and urban food production into the Rusun ASN IKN residential complex. The goal is to enable and create meaningful, functional designs that support urban food production within the residential building to achieve food sovereignty. The research combines parametric design tools and literature theory to generate facade systems and building configurations that respond to both spatial and production efficiency. These tools help ensure the proposed solutions meet the food production needs of the residents while remaining accessible and comfortable. The main variables that are taken into account are food quantity and type demands, and water systems that can accommodate hydroponic farming on building façade, and accessibility to foster farm to table concept for the systems. Design interventions must prioritize both visual and physical accessibility to hydroponic systems without compromising building performance. In addition, urban food production must be supported through alternative methods such as community farming on podium and rooftop areas. These shared spaces are essential for cultivating crops unsuitable for hydroponics, such as root vegetables and medium-sized plants, and they foster social interaction and collective responsibility among residents. There are two layout strategies that are explored, one promoting private balcony farming and the other encouraging shared community gardens, each offering distinct social benefits. While this study focuses on crops, future research should explore protein systems like aquaponics to expand the potential of urban self-sufficiency. / Seiring meningkatnya populasi urban global, yang diprediksi akan mencapai 68% pada tahun 2050, kota-kota di dunia menghadapi tantangan terkait ketahanan pangan. Urbanisasi secara signifikan mengurangi ketersediaan lahan pertanian, sehingga memaksa kota untuk bergantung pada makanan yang diproduksi di daerah pedesaan yang jauh. Sistem ini semakin tidak efisien, karena rantai transportasi dan pasokan yang mengantarkan makanan ke pusat-pusat kota berkontribusi pada degradasi lingkungan dan menyebabkan kekurangan pangan. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi integrasi sistem hidroponik dan produksi pangan perkotaan ke dalam kompleks perumahan Rusun ASN IKN. Tujuannya adalah untuk memungkinkan dan menciptakan desain yang fungsional dan bermakna yang mendukung produksi pangan perkotaan di dalam bangunan hunian untuk mencapai kedaulatan pangan. Penelitian ini menggabungkan alat desain parametrik dan teori literatur untuk menghasilkan sistem fasad dan konfigurasi bangunan yang sesuai dengan efisiensi spasial dan produksi. Alat-alat ini membantu memastikan solusi yang diusulkan memenuhi kebutuhan produksi pangan penghuni namun tetap mudah diakses dan nyaman. Variabel utama yang diperhitungkan adalah kebutuhan jumlah dan jenis makanan, sistem air yang dapat mengakomodasi pertanian hidroponik pada fasad bangunan, dan aksesibilitas untuk mendorong konsep farm to table untuk sistem tersebut. Intervensi desain harus memprioritaskan aksesibilitas visual dan fisik terhadap sistem hidroponik tanpa mengorbankan kinerja bangunan. Selain itu, produksi pangan perkotaan harus didukung melalui metode alternatif seperti pertanian komunitas di area podium dan atap. Ruang-ruang bersama ini sangat penting untuk membudidayakan tanaman yang tidak cocok untuk hidroponik, seperti sayuran akar dan tanaman berukuran sedang, dan mereka mendorong interaksi sosial dan tanggung jawab kolektif di antara para penghuni. Ada dua strategi tata letak yang dieksplorasi, satu yang mempromosikan pertanian balkon pribadi dan yang lainnya mendorong kebun komunitas bersama, masing-masing menawarkan manfaat sosial yang berbeda. Meskipun penelitian ini berfokus pada tanaman, penelitian di masa depan harus mengeksplorasi sistem protein seperti akuaponik untuk memperluas potensi swasembada perkotaan.
