Abstract
The interior design of the Kamojang Hijau Environmental Tourism Center aims to create a local potential based tourism area that not only offers engaging experiences but also strengthens the role of the local community within a sustainable tourism system. The chosen site is located in Laksana Tourism Village, Bandung Regency, an area rich in natural resources and home to an active community involved in agriculture and small medium enterprises (SMEs). This design project addresses three main challenges: how to design an integrated tourism space, how design can promote local products, and how the local community can be actively involved in the area’s development. Using a narrative approach and multisensory design strategies, Kamojang Ketjil was developed to present a seamless visitor journey from planting activities and tasting local products to educational experiences and souvenir purchases. Every space is designed to encourage interaction between visitors and the community through storytelling and hands-on activities suitable for all ages. The design is further supported by principles of universal design and ergonomics, making the area inclusive for diverse users.
The design process involved direct observation, interviews with stakeholders, and questionnaires distributed during an exhibition. Findings from this process show that the design is well received by both clients and visitors, while also strengthening the local economic chain from production and education to
consumption. This project is expected to serve as a replicable model for community based interior design in other tourism villages.
