Abstract

Self-efficacy, an individual's belief in their ability to achieve goals, is crucial for nursing students' clinical skills. Work readiness, the attitude and response needed to succeed in work, relies on strong clinical skills due to their impact on patient safety. This study examined the relationship between self-efficacy of clinical skills and work readiness among 183 nursing students at a private university in Tangerang, using a quantitative correlational design with purposive sampling. Data were collected via the Clinical Skills Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES) and Work Readiness Scale, analyzed with univariate and bivariate techniques, and tested using the Spearman rank-order correlation. Results showed a p-value <0.001 and correlation coefficient (r) of 0.368, indicating a significant, positive, but weak relationship between self-efficacy of clinical skills and work readiness. Higher self-efficacy correlates with greater work readiness. Clinical competence and mastery experiences enhance self-efficacy, which mediates work readiness, while educational quality, psychological support, and clinical exposure are also critical. Comprehensive strategies like simulation and preceptorship are essential for boosting both self-efficacy and work readiness, facilitating a smooth transition to professional nursing roles.
