Abstract

Interviews with 6 patients found that not all sought information about DM and practiced all five pillars. This study aims to identify self-efficacy in type 2 DM patients at Curug Health Center. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample involved was 164 respondents using the convenience sampling method. The instrument used was the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES) questionnaire. Data analysis used is univariate analysis. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a moderate level of self-efficacy (60.4%) with characteristics of old age (70.7%), female gender (63.4%), secondary education level (54.9%), less than 9 years of DM (74.4%), normal BMI (35.4%), poor blood glucose levels (73.8%), getting oral therapy (90.9%), and having 1 to 3 comorbidities (51.2%). The overall poor self-efficacy of respondents was found in the physical activity domain where the majority of respondents answered 'strongly disagree', 'disagree' and 'neutral' compared to 'strongly agree' and 'very strongly agree' on all questions. Health literacy and adequate support are needed in shaping self-efficacy that affects DM care, especially physical activity. The results of this study can serve as a basis for health workers to pay attention to aspects of patient self-efficacy in DM care, especially in the aspects of “diet management and maintaining weight” and “physical activity”. Continuous education and support from health workers are needed so that patients have self-efficacy in carrying out self-management.
