Abstract
When selecting a treatment, cancer patients typically deal with a dilemma because each option has risks and effects on quality of life and prognosis rates. A collaborative approach known as shared decision-making is used to assist patients in making these complex decisions. However, this decision- making has not been implemented in all areas. Understanding these barriers is crucial to adapting SDM models that are culturally sensitive and effective in diverse healthcare contexts. This scoping review aims to identify preferences, various forms of parental involvement in decision-making and the impact of parental involvement on the parents globally. This study answered the aim by analyzing the secondary articles from PubMed, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect (2014–2025) using Covidence and JBI Appraisal Critical tools. A total of 24 articles were included (16 qualitative, five quantitative, three mixed methods). The findings showed that parents expressed different preferences regarding their level of involvement in the decision-making process. The researchers identified three sub-themes of parental involvement: as a support system, information seeker, and collaborating with the healthcare expert in decision-making. The impact of parental involvement in decision-making is significant, including feeling fulfilled and a sense of dissatisfaction. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in decision-making for pediatric cancer treatment. To enhance this, healthcare facilities should support parent participation, train professionals in communication and empathy, and consider cultural influences in future research./Dalam memilih pengobatan, pasien kanker sering menghadapi dilema karena setiap opsi memiliki risiko serta dampak terhadap kualitas hidup dan tingkat prognosis.
