Abstract
Overweight occurred due to an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure, leading to the accumulation of body fat. In adolescents, rapid growth, sedentary lifestyles, and nutritional challenges increased the risk, making it a global health issue, including in Indonesia. The long-term impacts included physical diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, as well as mental health effects. As future healthcare professionals, nursing students played a key role in addressing this issue, both for themselves and their future patients. Therefore, it was essential for them to adopt healthy lifestyle habits to prevent overweight and improve the quality of patient care. Initial data from 26 first-year nursing students at a private university in Tangerang revealed that 4 (15%) students were overweight. Among these students, 12 (46.2%) engaged in light physical activity, 11 (42.3%) engaged
in moderate physical activity, and 3 (11.5%) engaged in vigorous physical activity. Similarly, a 2021 study by Purba et al. on nursing students in Western Indonesia from 329 respondents found that 36 (11%) respondents were overweight, coinciding with a high rate of physical inactivity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between physical activity and overweight incidence in nursing students at a private university in Tangerang. Method: This study used a descriptive quantitative research method with purposive sampling and Chi-Square correlation testing. The sample size was 207 participants. A questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument, and bivariate analysis was employed for data analysis. Result: The Crosstabs analysis showed a significance value of 0.313 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between physical activity and overweight among nursing students at a private university in Tangerang. Although no direct association was found, physical activity remained an important factor, and efforts
to raise awareness and encourage regular participation were still necessary. Future studies were expected to investigate the factors influencing overweight and
the relationships among them.
pengeluaran, menyebabkan penumpukan lemak tubuh.
