Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, including in Indonesia, with cases increasing every year. Individual risk perception of CVD plays an important role in prevention efforts and is influenced by sociodemographic characteristics. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and risk perception of cardiovascular disease in Indonesia. The study used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 300 respondents from various regions in Indonesia were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected through an online Attitude and Belief about Cardiovascular Disease (ABCD) Risk Questionnaire distributed through the populix by poplite platform and analyzed using Spearman, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results showed significant associations between age (p=0.032), marital status (p=0.012), employment type (p=0.021), and income (p=0.000) with cardiovascular disease risk perception. There was no significant association of gender, education, and beliefs with risk perception. Conclusion: certain sociodemographic characteristics are associated with perceived risk of CVD. Suggested: future research should include clinical aspects such as blood pressure measurement, body mass index (BMI), and smoking behavior to obtain more comprehensive results.
