Music virtually exists because of live performance. The challenge in performance practice is how to bring music to life. Music truly comes to life when a performer can interpret a piece with their own taste or personal interpretation. Performers can add a personal touch to a piece by interpreting it beyond the written score, infusing it with their own flair while staying true to the composer's historical context. This research aims to analyze the significance of incorporating music history in learning piano to achieve authentic and personal interpretations. It also evaluates the influence of music history knowledge on a pianist's interpretational skills. The research methodology used is Action Research, with a control and experimental group design. Eight piano major students from the 2023 and 2024 batches at Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music perform L'Aly Rupalich by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The hypothesis is that the experimental group will demonstrate significantly improved personal interpretation by understanding and applying historical knowledge of the piece.
