Abstract

In the nursing education environment, civility was modeled by faculty members involving the roles of staff through both theoretical and practical approaches. This study aimed to identify faculty civility from the perspective of second-year nursing students at a private university in Tangerang. A descriptive quantitative research design was used with a survey approach. The questionnaire, originally developed by Clark in English, was translated and adapted to the Indonesian context. The results showed that the majority of sophomore students perceived the civility of lecturers at the Faculty of Nursing, Pelita Harapan University to be in the good category. Students felt that there was effective communication, respect for differences, and that the behavior of lecturers served as role models in professionalism and ethics. However, there were several aspects that still needed to be improved, especially regarding the consistency of polite behavior in all academic situations. Students' positive perceptions of lecturers' civility indicated that the academic environment at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Pelita Harapan had supported the formation of nurses' professional character. The results of this study were expected to serve as material for evaluation and development of faculty policies to continue to improve the culture of civility in the nursing education environment.
